Mavs Drop Heartbreaker in OT

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team came up short in overtime to Westminster 69-62 in their final regular season game.
 
Bryanna Adams got off to a hot start by scoring 10 points in the first quarter on 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, including a three to start the game. On defense, the Mavs held the Griffins to just nine points in the quarter and led 17-9 at the end of the first.
 
Westminster went on an 8-2 run to start the second quarter and cut CMU's lead to three. Sio Lo'amanu halted the run with a three pointer to make the score 23-17 with 6:07 left in the quarter. CMU would lead by as many as 10 and at half they led 31-26.
 
The Mavs shot 41.7 (5-for-12) percent from the three-point line while the Griffins shot 50 (4-for-8) percent in the first half.
 
The third quarter belonged to Westminster. They held CMU to seven points on 1-for-11 from the field and 1-for-5 from three. Those points came from a three by Siu Lo'amano and two made free throws by Bryanna Adams. Westminster shot 60 (3-for-5) percent from the three point line to make the score 44-38.
 
The Mavs made a frantic comeback in the fourth. With 2:55 remaining they cut the Westminster's lead to three to make the score 49-52. Bryanna Adams scored the final seven points for the Mavs, including a three with thirty seconds to tie the game at 56-56 and send the game into overtime.
 
CMU wasn't able to stop Westminster in overtime. CMU led 59-56 early in OT, but Westminster came back and outscored them 13-6 to win 69-62.
 
Three pointers were the difference in the game. Westminster finished the game shooting 61.1 (11-for-18) from the three-point line while CMU only shot 34.6 (9-for-26) percent.
 
Bryanna Adams finished the game with 26 points on 6-for-10 from the three-point line and 8-for-16 from the field while Erika Musante got a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Aubrie Vale led the Griffins with 31 points on 6-for-9 from the three-point line.
 
The Mavs play in the first round of the RMAC Tournament on Tuesday (March 1) at CSU-Pueblo.
