GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The 11
th ranked Colorado Mesa wrestling team won eight of the ten bouts on their way to a 40-6 rout of the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves in the second annual Battle in Brownson on Thursday evening in front of 1040 fans.
Seven of the eight Maverick wins came by bonus points on the evening.
Daniel Salazar and
Marcus Haughian each earned their win by fall. Salazar was leading 17-3 when he put ThunderWolf Kyle Fantin to his back and earned a pin at the 5:51 mark of the match. Haughian wrestled up at 285 and earned the fall at the 4:02 mark of the second period.
Jason Buhr earned a technical fall at 157 pounds with an 18-3 win over Dixon Richins. Buhr led 11-2 after the first period and outscored Richins 7-1 in the final two periods.
Randy Boerner and
Zak Slotten each earned major decision wins at 174 and 184 pounds respectively.
Colorado Mesa will close out the dual season on Friday with a dual against Chadron State at 7pm in Brownson Arena.
