GOLDEN, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University indoor track and field teams opened the season in strong fashion breaking three school records at the Colorado Mines Alumni Classic.
Vernon Jackson broke the school record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a leap of 23-7.25 to finish second. He broke the previous school record set by Dezant Burkes by four inches.
Both the men's and women's shot put records were rewritten.
Trevor Jensen broke his own record by 2.25 inches to finish sixth with a throw of 50-5.
Hannah McClure broke Dani Pickerts school record in the shot put by three inches to finish fifth with a mark of 39-2.
Heidi Weber picked up the lone win for the Mavericks as she was the only women to break one minute in the 400 (59.07).
Alexia Chapman, who last competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, placed third in the 3,000 in a time of 10:36.09.
Jack Briggs finished fifth in the 200 (24.42) and the men's 4x400 was fifth (3:36.95).
The CMU track and field teams will be off until Jan. 27-28 when they take part in the Colorado Mines Div. II Invite.
