GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. –
Katie Kirby was the lone Colorado Mesa University tennis player to win both her matches in a 6-3 loss to Dixie State Thursday (Oct. 6).
Katie Kirby partnered with her sister Kristen to win 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Katie needed three sets to win at No. 6 singles (3-6, 6-3, 10-6).
Fredrikke Karst and
Emily Beckley won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles to give the Mavericks a 2-1 lead into singles action.
Dixie State tied the match at 2-2 after Alex Makshov defeated Karst 6-2, 6-3.
Kirby's win at No. 6 gave Mesa the lead, but Laura Hartle defeated
Rebecca Osterberg 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 singles to tie the match at 3-3.
Kyra Haranes of Dixie State won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5, and Lacey Hancock clinched the match for Dixie defeating
Kristen Kirby 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1.
Colorado Mesa (2-2) will host CSU-Pueblo Friday (Oct. 6).
