ALAMOSA, Colo. – The 20
th ranked Colorado Mesa wrestling team won six of the nine contested matches in a 35-11 over the Adams State Grizzlies on Thursday evening in Plachy Hall. The Mavericks improved to 2-0 in duals this season.
The Mavericks picked up three pins in the dual.
Daniel Salazar earned one at 141 pounds followed by a pin by
Drew Schumann at 149 pounds.
Marcus Haughian had the final pin at 197 pounds.
Senior
Jonathon Stelling opened the dual up with a 5-4 win over Ian Wingstrom. After wrestling to a scoreless first period, Stelling gave up an escape but earned a big takedownin the second period which proved to be the difference.
Redshirt freshman
Jason Buhr picked up his first dual meet win with a 13-3 major decision of Korey Windham at 165 pounds. Buhr had four takedowns along with a pair of nearfalls in his match.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Gunnison for the Tracey Borah Duals. They will have three duals against regional foes Simon Fraser and Central Oklahoma then a showdown with Div. I Air Force.
