LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Colorado Mesa started the dual season off right with a 30-12 win over New Mexico Highlands on Wednesday (Jan. 6) evening in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual.
Senior
Jonathon Stelling started the dual out with a 10-2 major decision victory over the Cowboys' Jacob Espana at 125 pounds giving Colorado Mesa the early 4-0 lead. The win was Stellings 11
th of the season.
After a New Mexico Highlands victory by pin at 133 pounds, the Mavericks won the next six bouts with one coming by technical fall and another by pin.
Nick Swanson earned a technical fall victory at 157 pounds and
Bruno Nicoletti earned a pin at 165 pounds for the two bonus point wins in the six match win streak.
Drew Schumann earned the win at 149 pounds defeating Reis Humphrey 8-3 in the battle of NCAA qualifiers from a year ago.
Colter Bentley earned the Mavericks final win of the evening at 285 pounds. Bentley picked up a pin over Corbin Grenowich for his first win of the season.
The Mavericks will have another dual tomorrow night in Alamosa against the Adams State Grizzlies at 6pm.
