GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – For the second straight dual, No. 11 Colorado Mesa won seven of the ten bouts on their way to a 28-12 win over Colorado Mines on Saturday evening (Jan. 23) in Brownson Arena.
 
At 125 pounds, sophomore Channing Lewis earned a major decision victory over Oredigger Matt Lavengood 13-2 to start the dual off. Lewis earned nine points in the third period including a riding point.
 
Colorado Mines picked up a win at 133 pounds before the Mavericks rattled off six straight wins including four by bonus point wins.
 
Daniel Salazar and Bruno Nicoletti each picked up technical falls while Jason Buhr and Zak Slotten each won by major decision.
 
Salazar led 2-0 after the first period before finishing off the final two rounds with seven takedowns and a reversal to take the 20-5 technical fall win over Travis Torres.
 
Nicoletti picked up his tech fall early in the second period after scoring three four-point nearfalls in the match to take the 17-0 win.
 
The Mavericks will be in action next Sunday in Colorado Springs at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships at the Olympic Training Center.
