HOW THE WEST WAS WONColorado Mesa and Western State will take to the mat on Thursday in a dual that is being dubbed 'How the West Was Won'. The Mavericks enter the dual ranked No. 11 in the latest D2Wrestle.com coaches poll while the Mountaineers come in ranked No. 16. Both teams have split the last six duals against each other winning three apeice. The dual could be a preview of the top two teams in the RMAC.
SALAZAR VS. BENNETTSNo. 2 ranked
Daniel Salazar and No. 7 ranked Corbin Bennetts are arguably the top two 141 pounders in the region and have already squared off against each other one time this season with Salazar winning 3-2 at the UNK Holiday Inn Open. Over the past two seasons, Salazar owns a 3-1 advantage over Bennetts but Bennetts wrestled for the NCAA Championship at 141 pounds.
SCHUMANNColorado Mesa's
Drew Schumann was named the RMAC and the D2Wrestle.com Regional Wrestler of the Week last week after going 5-0 in a pair of RMAC duals and the Tracy Borah Duals in Gunnison. Schumann is now 10-4 on the season with all of his losses coming to Div. I opponents.Â
HOME DUALAfter all the Western State dual talk, let's not forget that the Mavericks host Colorado Mines on Saturday in Brownson Arena. The Orediggers are 6-1 on the season and are coming off a 3-0 weekend at the Midwest Duals in Kearney, Neb. The dual is set to begin at 7pm on Saturday.
