Last season, they opened with a 2-2 tie against Midwestern State in Durango. The Mavericks will play at Midwestern State on Sunday in Wichita Falls, Texas.
THIS WEEKThe Mavericks will travel to Texas to open their season against Texas Woman's and Midwestern State.
The Mavericks and Pioneers played last season in Durango with TWU taking a 2-0 decision to take a 2-1-0 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams have never matched up against each other in Denton.
CMU will close out the opening weekend with a match against Midwestern State. The two teams played to a 2-2 draw last season in Durango with CMU maintaining a 5-2-2 overall record in the series. The last time the two teams played in Wichita Falls, Colorado Mesa came away with a 3-1 in 2012.
THE ROSTERThis year's squad is made up of 15 newcomers and 13 returners from last season's 1-13-4 team.
The team will feature seven seniors led by
Sarah Pope who is tenth on the all-time assist list. Â
COACHING STAFFThe Mavericks coaching staff remains the same as last season with head coach
Jason Clare entering his second season at the helm and third season in the program.Â
Assistant coach
Kortney Rhoades enters her second year in the program as well.
HEALTHYJanelle Metzger and
Ashley Wallace enter this season healthy. Both Metzger and Wallace suffered season-ending injuries in the early portion of training camp a year ago. Wallace comes into the season with five career goals and 13 points while Metzger has yet to play since transferring from Embry-Riddle.Â
GOALKEEPINGColorado Mesa will break in a new goalkeeper this year after the departure of senior
Sarah Schnetzler who played in 70 matches and made 363 stops in her career.
There are three goalkeepers on the roster in redshirt sophomore
Deanna Geraci and a pair of freshman in
Janelle Richmond-Buccola and
Rachel Banister.Â
RMAC PRESEASON POLLThe Mavericks were picked ninth in the preseason coaches poll after finishing in tenth place last season. Colorado Mesa was picked ahead of Adams State, Colorado Christian and RMAC newcomer Westminster. The top six teams qualify for the RMAC Tournament in November.
VIDEO STREAMINGColorado Mesa and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference have teamed up with Stretch Internet to provide video streaming for all home games this season. Video streaming will also be free this season. Find the link at CMUmavericks.com.

NEXT UPThe Mavericks will host Dallas Baptist and Angelo State as part of the Maverick Classic at Walker Field. Fort Lewis will be the fourth school involved in the Classic which opens up on Thursday.
