PUEBLO, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team opened the season with a split in Pueblo Friday (Sept. 11). Colorado Mesa defeated Texas-Permian Basin 7-2 and fell to Neb.-Kearney 8-1.
Texas-Permian Basin won at No. 2 and 3 doubles with the lone Mesa win at No. 1.
Andres Garcia-Rojas and
Cody Freischlag earned an 8-5 win over Caio Aguiar and Cole Davis.
Garcia-Rojas followed up with a come from behind victory at No. 1 singles. He defeated Cole Davis 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.
Freischlag also won at No. 2 singles defeating Thomas Rice 4-6, 7-5, 10-6.
Lucas Martin and
Max Lindqvist earned their first career wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
Trevor Brown won at No. 5 and
Ben Schlichting won at No. 6 to complete the sweep of singles for CMU.
Cody Frieschlag collected the lone win for CMU against UNK defeating Mohab El Zanaty 6-3, 1-6, 10-7.
CMU will participate in a singles and doubles tournament at MSU Denver Sept. 18-19.Â
