SEASON OPENERS
Colorado Mesa will open the season this weekend with a matchup with Div. III Colorado College at Walker Field. The Mavericks are 2-2 all-time in season openers having beaten Adams State twice and lost to Pace University (N.Y.) twice. Last season, the Mavericks defeated Adams State 11-7 in Grand Junction.

PRESEASON AWARDS
Eric McCosker and Stephen Dunn swept the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association preseason awards. McCosker was named the defensive player of the year while Dunn won the offensive player of the year distinction. Dunn led the Mavericks in goals and points a year ago while McCosker was the leader in groundball pickups and caused turnovers.

FIRST TIMER
Head coach Vince Smith will coach is first game as the Mavericks head man on Saturday. Smith was the Mavericks assistant coach a year ago and previously spent time at the high school and professional levels.

WHATS NEXT
The Mavericks will travel to Alamosa for a WILA matchup with Adams State next weekend.
