Box Score 3 PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team opened RMAC play with a three-game sweep of Colorado Mines Friday (Feb. 20).
The series was originally scheduled for a four-game series but was changed due to a tripleheader due to inclement weather.
CMU posted wins of 9-7, 15-6 and 11-0.
Mines opened the first game with five runs across the first two innings. The Mavs answered with three runs in the fourth on just one hit. CMU had two walks and was hit by two pitches in the inning.
CMU capitalized on three CSM errors in the sixth inning scoring three runs on three hits.
The Mavs scored three runs in the seventh with a two-run double by
Megan Brown.
The Orediggers come-back came up short scoring two runs on a single down the right field line in the bottom of the seventh.
Sarah Phillis and
Tawnee Woosley each had three hits for the Mavericks.
The Mavericks wasted no time in game two scoring eight runs on seven hits in the opening inning.
CMU added one run in the third and exploded for six more runs in the fourth.
Mines scored all six of its runs in the fifth inning on four hits and three errors by the Mavericks.
Rochelle Talamantes gave up five runs on six hits for her second win of the season.
Megan Brown and
Makayla Kovac each went 3-for-3 at the plate with Kovac collecting three RBI's.
CMU (7-8, 3-0) will play a non-conference doubleheader at Dixie State Tuesday (Feb. 24).Â
