GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – No. 6 Colorado Mesa won seven of the ten bouts with six coming for bonus points in a 36-12 win over the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys on Friday evening in Brownson Arena. With the win, the Mavericks are guaranteed at least a share of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship.
Senior
Colby Christensen started the night off with a tech fall win over Victor Munoz, 17-1. Christensen surrendered just a lone escape while earning four nearfalls and three takedowns. The tech fall victory was his seventh win of that type this season.
Daniel Salazar earned an 8-0 major decision victory over Dan Gaylor at 141 pounds. Salazar has been victorious in 11 of his past 12 matches he has wrestled in and earned his fifth major decision victory of the season tonight.
After a loss at 149 pounds, Colorado Mesa ripped off three straight wins that included a pin by third ranked
James Martinez, a forfeit taken by
Jessie Hoffschneider, and a decision victory for
Bruno Nicoletti.
Paco Retana finished the Mavericks night off with a 34 second pin of Jermey Misailegalu followed by a forfeit victory by
Jordan Passehl.
The Mavericks can earn the outright RMAC Championship with a win over Colorado Mines tomorrow night at 7pm in Brownson Arena.
