Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Colorado Mesa handed the MSU Denver Roadrunners their worst loss since 2001 in a 4-0 win on Sunday afternoon at Regency Athletic Complex in a RMAC women's soccer match.
The last time MSU Denver allowed four or more goals was against West Texas A&M on September 27, 2001.
Freshman
Lauren Thompson scored the first goal for the Mavericks in the sixth minute of the match. Thompson headed in a cross from
Jessie Parra for her second goal of the season.
The score would remain 1-0 until the 80
th minute of the match when
Brooklynn Meinke scored the first of three goals in the final ten minutes of the match. Meinke took a pass from
Sarah Pope that made it through the defense and scored on a breakaway.
Just over two minutes later Meinke struck again, this time on a through pass from Haley Glassey. The goal was Meinke's second of her Maverick career and second of the match.
She wasn't done yet. In the 89
th minute, Meinke scored on another breakaway on a pass from
Sarah Pope.
Meinke's hat trick was the first for Colorado Mesa since September 22, 2006 when Lauren Sell scored three goals against the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves at then Bergman Field.
The Mavericks outshot the Roadrunners 20-8 in the match and 12-4 in shots on goal.
Freshman
Janelle Richmond-Buccola earned the shutout making four saves in the match.
The Mavericks will return home next weekend for a pair of matches at Walker Field.
