LAS VEGAS, NEV. – The Colorado Mesa University football team scored a touchdown in each quarter and the defense held New Mexico Highlands to 260 yards of total offense in a 31-6 Maverick win in RMAC football action Saturday (Oct. 10).
CMU's first drive started after the defense stopped NMHU on downs. The Mavs would need just four plays and 65 yards to score its first touchdown of the game.

Jackson Burrell intercepted the first of two passes for CMU with two minutes remaining in the first. The Macs marched 62 yards on 12 plays before
Ryan Sheehan kicked a 26-yard field goal at 12:18 of the second.
The ensuing Cowboys drive lasted just three plays before
Dustin Rivas intercepted his third pass of the year.
DJ Hubbard capped an eight-play 41-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown run.
For the third straight time a Highlands drive would end in an interception, the second by
Jackson Burrell.
The Mavs were unable to capitalize but entered the half leading 17-0.

Virnel Moon connected for the second time, this one a seven-yard score.
Davonte Lynch would run 51 yards for the Cowboys lone touchdown of the game to cut the Mavs lead to 24-6 with 8:05 remaining in the third.
DJ Hubbard concluded the scoring with his second touchdown at 6:52 of the fourth quarter. Hubbard finished with a team-high 84 yards on 18 carries (4.7 ypc).
Mesa scored on all four of its trips into the red zone, including three touchdowns. 17 of the team's 31 points came on turnovers.
Sean Rubalcaba completed 13-of-23 passes for 129 yards.
Virnel Moon finished with a game-high 73 yards receiving for the Mavs.
The CMU defense held NMHU to 260 yards of total offense and only 96 passing yards. The defense recovered one fumble to compliment its three interceptions.
Blake Nelson finished with a game-high 14 tackles, two tackles for a loss of 14 yards and one sack.
Colorado Mesa (5-1, 4-0) will look to remain unbeaten in RMAC play when it hosts Western New Mexico for Homecoming Oct. 17
