Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado – The 12
th ranked Midwestern State Mustangs scored the game-winning goal with just a little over two minutes left in the second overtime to take down the Colorado Mesa Mavericks at Walker Field on Sunday afternoon.
Colorado Mesa struck first in the match with a goal in the 79
th minute.
Alan Hernandez scored his second goal of the season after taking a cross from
Charlie Dukes. The goal gave the Mavericks a short lived 1-0 lead.
Midwestern State evened the match exactly two minutes later on a penalty kick. Colorado Mesa was whistled for a foul in the box on a free kick which gave the Mustangs the opportunity.
The two teams remained tied for the final ten minutes of regulation and headed to overtime.
The Mustangs tallied a goal in the 108
th minute for the game winner.
Midwestern State outshot the Mavericks in the match 20-5 with Maverick goalkeeper
Micah Conrads making seven saves in the match.
Colorado Mesa will head to Montana next weekend for matches against San Francisco State and Montana State – Billings.
