Mavs Hit the Road for Two Crucial Matches

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Colorado Mesa University men's soccer team hit the road for two important away matches against Regis and South Dakota Mines.

The Mavericks face the Rangers on Oct. 16 at Regis Turf and then will make the trek to Rapid City S.D. to take on the Hardrockers on Oct. 18 at Dakota Fields.

Both matches will be streamed on the RMAC Network and will have live stats available.

Last Time Out
The Mavs hosted the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers in their lone match of the week; the teams battled to a 1-1 draw.

Edoardo Oliveri scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season, his fourth in the past five matches. Richie Tabares Ochoa and Stefanos Christodoulakis teamed up for an assist as well.

RMAC Standings
CSU Pueblo is the only undefeated team in conference play and sits in first place with 14 points. Fort Lewis follows in second with 12.

UCCS places third with a point total of 11 while Regis and South Dakota Mines are tied in fourth with ten points.

Mesa sits in fifth with eight points while Westminster are right on their tail with seven points.

MSU Denver and Colorado Christian are tied on six points with Colorado School of Mines gaining their first point of conference play. Adam State is still searching for their first point of RMAC play.

Richie Sets Sights on CMU Assists Record
It's safe to say that Tabares Ochoa is having a phenomenal season on offense. He not only has the second most goals on the team with five, but he also leads the team is assists with seven, the most a Mav has put up since 2024.

That total puts him tied for fourth in most assists in a single season. He is three shy of the record set by Kevin Del Mazo back in 2018. He is also second in the RMAC in assists and second in assists per game (.583).

Offensive Stats
While Oliveri and Tabares Ochoa highlight the team's offensive success, there are still plenty of players who have also contributed. The Mavs have scored 19 times this season with nine different scorers adding to that total.

Matteo Bonelli, Justin Ibrahim, Afonso Taborda, Hayes Malone and Christodoulakis have all played roles in the offensive output whether it is setting up goal scoring opportunities or scoring the goals themselves.

Defense and More Defense
The Mavs' defensive front have only allowed 17 goals on the season, but will need to clean things up against some tough opponents.

The backline is led by Preseason All-RMAC member George Jones, who leads the team in minutes with a goal and an assist on the year. Daniel Ehler, Jaxson Dowling, Jonah Elstad and Connor Chilson have also been solid in the back.

Nathan Beck has had a great year in goal, racking up 43 saves on 161 shots faced. He is also the only Mav to win an RMAC weekly award when he won RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week for his efforts against UCCS and CSU Pueblo.

About Regis
The Rangers own an overall record of 8-3-3 while boasting a 3-1-1 record in RMAC play. They own impressive wins against Seattle Pacific and Fort Hays State but setbacks against #1 Cal State Los Angeles and UCCS.

The Mavs have a 15-13-5 record against the Rangers historically but have not beaten the Rangers since 2023.

Michael Ajagbe leads the Rangers in goals with five while Liam Corr and Blaise Richard lead in assists with three.

Zach Jennings has started and played in every game between the sticks for the Rangers, making 29 saves and only conceding eight so far.

About South Dakota Mines
The Hardrockers have had an impressive season thus far, owning a 7-3-3 overall record with a 3-2-1 conference record.

The Hardrockers have not had an impressive record against the Mavs, as Mesa owns a 13-1-2 record against them. Although the last time the Hardrockers beat the Mavs was in 2025 when they pummeled them 4-0. Last season the Mavs got their revenge when they shut them out 2-0.

Reigning RMAC Offensive Player of Week Lucas Miranda leads the team with nine goals and is coming off a brace against Colorado Christian. Shon West matches Miranda's goal total with a team-leading nine assists of his own.

Goalkeeping duties have been split between Claudio Otto and Abdo Salem Abdullah. Otto has totaled 30 saves on the year and won the RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week for his recent efforts.

Take a Look Ahead
The Mavs return home for Senior Day and their second match against the Cougars of Colorado Christian on Oct. 23. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. inside Community Hospital Unity Field.
