The Mavericks started conference play undefeated with wins over Regis, Black Hills State, and Chadron State all in straight sets. The Mavs have yet to lose a set at home this year.
Colorado Mesa Continues to Climb In The Polls
After starting the season in the receiving votes categories, the Mavericks have started to climb in the AVCA Top-25. They currently sit at #20 after their dominating victories over Regis, Black Hills State, and Chadron State this past weekend (Sept. 18,19, and 20). The other team from the RMAC in the Top-25 is Colorado School of Mines at #12. Regis and Metro State University-Denver are each receiving votes.
Volleyball Getting it Done As A Team
As a team the Mavericks rank 7th in Div II and third in the conference in assists per set with 13.65. They rank nationally at 22 with 18 digs per set. With 14.51 kills per set, Colorado Mesa volleyball is ninth out of 284 ranked teams. They have the second best match win-loss percentage in the conference at .818.
Moody's Strong Play Continues
Jordyn Moody continues her strong start to the season as she is ranked 7th in Div. II in assists per set (12.14) and 15th in total assists (449).
Mavericks in RMAC Rankings
Melissa Hess (.349) and
Abby Ney (.335) sit at third and fourth in conference in hitting percentage. Tiffany Peterson is sixth in the RMAC in total digs (178).
Metro State-Denver
The Mavericks will look to give the Roadrunners their first conference loss of the season. Metro State-Denver has gotten of to a great start to the season with a 9-2 overall record .The Roadrunners two losses of the year have come to ranked opponents, No. 10 Southwest Minnesota State and No. 3 Minnesota Duluth. They beat No. 5 Central Missouri in the Colorado Premier Challenge. In conference play they have taken down New Mexico Highlands, Colorado State-Pueblo, and Adams State. Lauren Quijano and Brandi Torr both received weekly honors as they were named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week and Setter of the Week on September 22nd. Metro State-Denver is currently receiving votes in the AVCA Top-25 Coaches Poll. The Mavericks have a losing record against the Roadrunners as they are 15-39 overall and 5-19 when playing at Metro State-Denver.
#12 Colorado School of Mines
The defending Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champions are off to a killer start with a 10-1 record on the season so far. Their only loss came to Augustana who is currently ranked No. 21 in Div. II. Colorado School of Mines have wins over Western New Mexico, New Mexico Highlands and CSU-Pueblo to start conference play undefeated. They return Second Team AVCA All-American setter Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood who is picked as this years RMAC Preseason Setter of the Year. As just a junior, she already ranks second on the Orediggers all-time digs charts. Sophomore Alanna Winfield was also named to the Preseason All- RMAC team. The Orediggers are picked to repeat as RMAC Champions. The Mavericks are 10-7 against the Orediggers and 5-3 at Colorado School of Mines.
Colorado Christian University
The Cougars got off to a rocky start to their season going 1-4 at the Oredigger Classic, but have bounced back nicely to now have a record of 8-4. Colorado Christian has wins over Fort Lewis and New Mexico Highlands and a loss to Western New Mexico to start conference play 3-1. The Cougars are picked to finish fifth in conference, and have RMAC Preseason Player of the Year Taylor Sturms. The Mavericks have a winning record of 10-5 against the Cougars.
