Back-to-Back-to-Back Homeruns Highlight Softball Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DURANGO, Colo. – Colorado Mesa split a softball doubleheader at Fort Lewis Saturday (April 5) falling 8-4 in the opener and taking the second game 13-3.

In game one, Fort Lewis scored five runs in the second and three more in the sixth. Sarah Phillis was the only Maverick to collect more than one hit in the contest finishing with two. Makayla Kovac blasted a solo home run in the sixth inning to record one of four CMU RBIs.

Game two was a complete turnaround from the first for the Mavericks who scored 13 runs on 18 hits.

Jessica Severinsen opened the scoring for CMU with a three-run homer in the third inning.

Colorado Mesa exploded for seven runs the following inning. Madelyn Schulz jacked a three-run homer. Makayla Kovac and Jessica Severinsen each hit homers at the following two at-bats.

Karissa Nickeson batted a perfect 4-for-4 for CMU. Nicole Robinson and Makayla Kovac each went 3-for-4.

Ashley Pulido collected her sixth win of the season striking out eight, walking two and giving up three runs on four hits.

Colorado Mesa (16-14, 15-9) will close the four-game series at Fort Lewis Sunday (April 6).
