Softball Hosts RMAC Tournament

Complete Game Notes in PDF

Colorado Mesa will host the RMAC Tournament May 1-3 after winning the RMAC regular season title. The Mavericks have won four RMAC regular season titles (92, 00, 02, 07, 14) but have never won the RMAC Tournament.

Player of the Year
Sophomore shortstop Makayla Kovac was named the RMAC Player of the Year. The Erie, Pa., native leads the RMAC in batting average (.490), slugging percentage (1.000), hits (76), runs scored (57) and RBIs (63.) She also had a 21-game hitting streak during the season.

Co-Pitcher of the Year
Senior Jessica Severinsen shared Pitcher of the Year honors with Aubree Maul of Metro State. Severinsen leads the RMAC in ERA
at 2.94. She finished the season with a 13-11 record, amassing 104 strikeouts in 143 innings pitched.

Dangerous Duo
Makayla Kovac and Jessica Severinsen become the second pair at CMU to win Player and Pitcher of the Year in the same year. Jennee West (player) and Renee Hietbrink (pitcher) achieved the feat in 2002. This year marks the fourth time that the same school has won player and pitcher of the year honors.

All-RMAC
Jessica Severinsen and Makayla Kovac each earned first team All-RMAC honors. Sarah Phillis (outfield) and Megan Brown (utility) each earned second team accolades.

Streak Ends
Makayla Kovac's 21-game hit streak came to an end in a 4-3 win to Colorado Christian on April 27.

Triples
Colorado Mesa ranks third in Div. II in triples averaging 0.48 per game.

Last Time Out
Colorado Mesa won three of four games in its series at home against Colorado Christian. The Mavericks out-scored the Cougars 29-16 in the series.

Looking Ahead
Colorado Mesa will earn an automatic birth to the NCAA Tournament by winning the RMAC Tournament.
