Mavericks Walk Off With Doubleheader Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team walked off with a doubleheader sweep of the Colorado Christian Cougars on Saturday afternoon at CMU Softball Stadium. The Mavericks are just a CSU-Pueblo loss away from being named RMAC Regular Season Champions and hosting the RMAC Tournament.
 
In game one, Colorado Mesa tallied runs in five of the six innings they hit in a 10-7 win. They pounded out 11 hits but committed two errors in the win.
 
Makayla Kovac led the Mavericks at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of home runs and six runs driven in. The sophomore hit a game-tying grand slam in the fourth inning, knotting the game at 7-7. She also walked twice and scored two runs.
 
Megan Brown and Nicole Robinson each had two hits as well.
 
Senior Ashley Pulido picked up the win in relief and improved to 12-5 on the season. Pulido pitched the final four innings and allowed one run on four hits, walked two and struck out three.
 
In the regular season finale, Sarah Phillis hit a ground ball up the middle that the Colorado Christian center fielder misplayed that allowed three runs to score including Phillis in a 4-3 win for CMU.
 
Phillis finished the game with three of the Mavericks six hits in the game. She scored two runs and drove in one.
 
Jessica Severinsen pitched the complete game to earn her 13th win of the season. She allowed three runs on five hits, walked five and struck out four in the game.
 
The Mavericks finish the regular season with a 27-19 record overall and 26-12 in the RMAC. They can finish no worse than second in the conference and will await tomorrow's series finales across the league.
