Mavericks, Cougars Split Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa split a softball doubleheader with the Colorado Christian Cougars on Friday evening at CMU Softball Stadium. The games were moved up to a Friday-Saturday doubleheaders due to a potential weather system moving into the area.
 
In game one, Colorado Christian hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning and added two more runs in the seventh in a 5-2 win for the Cougars. The Mavericks outhit the Cougars in the game but committed two costly errors.
 
Megan Brown finished the game 2-for-2 with a run scored and her sixth double of the season.
 
Brooke Ortale drove in two runs as well.
 
Jessica Severinsen took the loss in the circle. Severinsen went the distance and allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits, walked five and struck out four.
 
In the nightcap, Colorado Mesa pounded out 13 hits including eight for extra bases in a 13-1 win that ended after five innings of play.
 
Ashley Pulido threw the complete game and allowed one run on three hits, walked no one and struck out three to earn her ninth win of the season. Pulido retired seven in a row after allowing a two-out single in the second inning.
 
Four Mavericks finished with two hits led by Makayla Kovac and Karissa Nickeson who both had home runs in the contest.
 
The two teams will attempt to complete their four-game series tomorrow starting at 12:00pm.
