Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa swept Western New Mexico in an RMAC softball doubleheader Saturday (April 12) at Bergman Field. CMU (19-17, 18-10) won game one 7-0 and game two 9-7.
Jessica Severinsen dominated game one in the circle striking out 10 Mustangs and giving up three hits in six innings of work. She also blasted a two-run home run over the left field wall to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
CMU scored one run in both the third and fourth innings and scored three more in the fifth thanks to five singles.
Megan Brown batted a perfect 3-for-3, and
Makayla Kovac and
Karissa Nickeson each finished with two hits.
Jessica Severinsen started game two just like the first hitting a home run to left field at her first at-bat of the game to cap a two-run inning by CMU.
Colorado Mesa would score two more runs in the third, but it was the pitching of
Ashley Pulido, who had not given up a hit entering the fifth inning, that was the story of the game.
Mary Othon ended the no-hitter with a home run to lead off the inning for WNMU. The Mustangs would score two more in the inning on five hits.
CMU responded with five more runs across the fifth and sixth innings.
The WNMU rally came up short scoring three runs on three hits in the seventh.
Pulido allowed three runs on five hits in her eighth win of the season.
Jessica Severinsen earned the save giving up four runs on four hits.

Sarah Phillis and
Makayla Kovac each finished with a game-high two hits, and
Nicole Robinson scored a game-high three runs.
Colorado Mesa will host Western New Mexico in a doubleheader Sunday (April 13).
