Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
Jessica Severinsen capped of a stellar weekend for the Colorado Mesa softball team with a walk-off grand slam to complete the four-game sweep of Colorado Mines Sunday (March 9).
The Elizabeth, Colo., native hit 5-for-11 with three homeruns, two of which were walk-offs, three walks and was hit by two pitches on the weekend. Severinsen was equally dangerous in the circle. She earned all four wins, pitching 14 innings, allowing 13 hits, all singles, four earned runs and eight strikeouts.
In game one, the Orediggers manufactured three runs in the top of the seventh for a 5-2 lead.
The Mavericks tied the contest at five, thanks to homeruns by
Sarah Phillis and
Rachel Boothe in the bottom of the seventh.
Both teams scored a run in the eighth with nothing more than a single.
Madelyn Schulz singled to drive in
Megan Brown who led off the ninth inning with a walk to give CMU a 7-6 win.
Sarah Phillis batted a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBIs, and
Madelyn Schulz finished 3-for-5.
Mines led off game two with two runs in the first and added another in the fourth before the Maverick bats got hot.
The Mavericks tallied five hits, including a three-run homer by Severinsen, to cap a five-run fourth inning.
CMU tallied five more runs, on just two hits, the following inning that ended with a walk-off grand slam by Severinsen to win 11-3 in
five innings.
Severinsen finished a perfect 3-for-3 with seven RBIs, and
Mariaha O'dell finished 2-for-2.
The softball team improves to 8-8 overall and 7-3 in the RMAC.
Mesa will play a four-game series at New Mexico Highlands March 15-16.
