Softball Hosts Mines This Weekend

Colorado Mesa hosts Colorado School of Mines in a four-game series March 8-9. 
Player of the Week
Sophomore Makayla Kovac was named the RMAC Player of the Week after hitting a homerun in both games at UCCS. The Erie, Colo., native finished the day batting four-of-eight with six RBI and three runs scored. She ranks third in slugging percentage (.927), third in homeruns (6), fourth in RBIs (18) and 12th in runs (13). Kovac ranks 11th in the nation in RBIs. 
Doubles
Colorado Mesa ranks 20th in the nation and second in the RMAC in doubles with 1.7 per game. Jessica Severinsen has six doubles this season, sixth most in the league. 
Triples
Freshman Sarah Phillis ranks second in the RMAC with three triples. The Placerville, Calif., native is batting .364 and has started 10 of the 11 games she has played in this season. 
Pitching Dual
The top two pitching teams will square off this weekend in Grand Junction. Colorado Mines leads the RMAC in earned run average (2.43) and Colorado Mesa ranks second (2.71). 
Strikeouts
Senior Jessica Severinsen struck out a season-high nine batters at UCCS. The Elizabeth, Colo., native ranks fourth in the league in strikeouts averaging 5.4 per seven innings. She is no slouch with the bat either leading the RMAC and ranking 21st in the nation with 0.31 homeruns per game. 
Hits Needed
CMU is 4-1 this season when it records more hits than its opponent and 0-7 when it has fewer. 
Last Time Out
CMU swept UCCS in a weather shortened series. The Mavericks won game one 6-4 and game two 11-6. The 11 runs was the most the Mavs have scored this season. 
Looking Ahead
Colorado Mesa will head to Las Vegas, New Mexico for a four-game series with New Mexico Highlands March 15-16
