COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's tennis team split its final four matches during Spring Break.
No. 18 Midwestern State defeated Colorado Mesa 8-1 with
Jordan Lyden picking up the lone win at No. 1 singles for CMU defeating Kacper Boborykin 6-4, 6-1.
Colorado Mesa followed up with a 9-0 win over in-state foe Colorado College.
Trevor Brown had a marathon match at No. 6 singles defeating Ross Sherman, 7-6 (5), 0-6, 15-13.
The Mavericks concluded the trip with a split on Saturday (March 29) falling to Sonoma State 6-3 and winning a narrow 5-4 decision over Holy Names.
Doubles was the bright spot for CMU against Sonoma State.
Jordan Lyden and
Spencer Weinberg won (8-6) at No. 1, and
Andres Garcia-Rojas and
Trevor Brown won (9-8 (5)) at No. 2.
Cody Freischlag earned the lone singles win at No. 5.
The Mavericks strong doubles play continued against Holy Names. Lyden and Weinberg won at No. 1, and
Blake Demond and
Cody Freischlag won at No. 2.
Duncan Alger earned a two-set win (6-3, 6-4) at No. 6 singles.
Jordan Lyden lost his first set (2-6), but rallied to win the next two (6-4, 7-5) for the win at No. 1 singles.
Trevor Brown's three set victory (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) at No. 5 singles lifted the Mavericks to the win.
Colorado Mesa (8-7) will open RMAC play against Colorado Christian on April 4 in Silver City, N.M.
