Makayla Kovac batted 7-for-9 with two homeruns and six RBIs to lead Colorado Mesa to a series sweep at New Mexico Highlands Sunday (March 16). The Mavericks improve to 12-8 overall and 11-3 in the league after winning game one 9-1 and game two 12-8. 
In game one 
Jessica Severinsen blasted her seventh homerun of the season in the second inning to highlight a four-run second inning for the Mavericks who led 6-0.
Mesa would add two more in the top of the fourth before Aricia Dami broke up the shutout for Highlands with a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning.
Kovac and 
Sarah Phillis each finished 3-for-4 at the plate for CMU.
The Mavericks needed 18 hits, including four homeruns, to pick up the win in game two.
Karissa Nickeson tied the game at four a side with her homerun in the top of the fourth. NMHU would take the lead back with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Kovak and Severinsen hit back-to-back homeruns as part of a three run sixth inning to lead 7-6. 
Kovak hit a homerun at her next at-bat as part of a five hit, five run seventh inning for the Mavericks. 
The Cowgirls added two more runs in the bottom of the inning but the Mavs held on for the 12-8 win. 
Jo Bolyard started the game allowing three runs on six hits, but 
Ashley Pulido would earn the win striking out six and giving up five runs on eight hits. 
CMU's winning streak now stands at 10 games as Mesa has swept its last three series.
Mesa will play at Adams State March 22-23.
