Softball Heads to New Mexico Highlands

Colorado Mesa will play a four-game conference road series at New Mexico Highlands March 15-16. 
Pitcher of the Week
Colorado Mesa earned its second straight RMAC Player of the Week as Jessica Severinsen was named Pitcher of the Week. She picked up all four wins against defending RMAC champ Colorado School of Mines. The Elizabeth, Colo., native finished the weekend with a 2.00 ERA and a .228 opponent batting average with eight strikeouts. All of the hits she gave up were singles. She was equally impressive at the plate. She batted 5-for-11 with 10 RBIs, three walks and was hit by two pitches. She hit three homeruns, two of which were walkoffs, including a grand slam in the series finale. 
Hitting Threat
Colorado Mesa ranks in the top-20 in the nation in four different statistical categories; 13th in slugging percentage (.537), 14th in home runs (1.13 pg), doubles (2.0 pg) and triples (0.44 pg). 
Triple Threat
Sarah Phillis has hit three triples, eighth most in the nation. She also ranks 28th in the nation in triples per game at 0.2. 
Nations Finest
Makayla Kovac ranks in the top-50 in the nation in four different statistical categories; 23rd in homeruns per game (0.38), 26th in RBIs (1.44), 31st in homeruns (6) and 48th in runs per game (1.13). 
Hits
CMU is 8-1 this season when it records the same or more hits then its opponents and 0-7 when the opponent out-hits the Mavericks. 
New Month
CMU is 4-0 in March after posting a 4-8 record in February. 
Last Time Out
CMU recorded its second straight series sweep winning all four games at home against Colorado School of Mines March 8 and 9. 
Looking Ahead
Colorado Mesa will play at RMAC leader Adams State March 22-23.
