Box Score 2 CANYON, Texas – The Colorado Mesa softball team fell to 0-4 after dropping a pair of games Saturday (Feb. 15) at the West Texas A&M Invitational.
The Mavericks opened with a 12-7 extra inning loss to Eastern New Mexico.
Mesa scored its first run of the season in the bottom of the first.
Makayla Kovac doubled to center field and then scored thanks to a double to right center by
Jessica Severinsen.
The Zias answered with three runs on four hits and one error in the top of the second, and the Mavericks added another run in the bottom of the inning.
ENMU manufactured one run in the top of the fifth, but CMU tied the game at 4-4 after Kovac hit a two-run homerun. She finished 2-for-4 with two rbi's and three runs scored.
Each team scored in the sixth and were held scoreless in the seventh to force extra innings.
Eastern erupted for seven runs in the eighth due in part to three Mesa errors and four Zia hits.
CMU countered with two hits in the bottom of the inning.
Jessica Severinsen finished 2-for-4 at the plate and threw all eight innings with four strike outs.
Mesa concluded the day with an 8-0 loss to host No. 8 West Texas.
Madelyn Schulz recorded the lone hit for the Mavericks.
Courtney Shreves struck out five and gave up six runs, five earned, on four hits in three innings. Ashley Pulito gave up two runs on two hits in one inning of work.
Mesa will conclude the weekend Sunday (Feb. 16) with games against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Tarleton State.
