GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The 17
th ranked Colorado Mesa University wrestling team fell to the 10
th ranked Western State Colorado Mountaineers 27-15 at Paul Wright Gym. A crowd of roughly 500 people witnessed the dual between the RMAC rivals.
The two teams split the ten matches, each winning five but the Mountaineers secured four wins via pin. All of Colorado Mesa's wins came by way of decision.
Erick Vargas earned his first RMAC win of the season with an 8-6 win over Western State's Dammion Heard at 125 pounds.
Western State answered back with a pair of pins at 133 and 141 pounds to take a 12-3 lead in the dual.
The Mavericks took a 15-12 lead after winning the next four bouts, starting with
Nick Swanson at 149 pounds. Swanson secured a 3-2 win over CJ York to start the Maverick rally.

Jessie Hoffschneider, and #6 Chester Granard each won their bouts by decision. Hoffscheider won 6-1 while Granard didn't surrender a point, winning 6-0.
Colorado Mesa will have one more RMAC dual next week when they travel to Colorado Mines. The following week they will host the NCAA Super Region/RMAC Championships in Brownson Arena.
