Softball Falls in Season Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CANYON, Texas – The Colorado Mesa softball team started the 2014 season with a pair of losses at the Woodward West Texas A&M Invitational Friday (Feb. 14). Angelo State defeated Mesa 10-0, and Tarleton State came away a 7-0 win.

The Mavericks struggled on offense recording two hits in each game.

Angelo State opened with two runs in the first and added three more in the second inning. The Rambelles hit a grand slam and added another run to conclude the scoring.

Designated hitter Jessica Severinsen was hit by a pitch and singled in her only official at-bat of the contest. Nicole Robinson also hit a single in the contest.

Severinsen gave up five run on five hits in two innings pitched, and Courtney Shereves gave up five runs on two hits with three strikeouts in two innings pitched. 

In the second game, Tarleton State scored one run in the first set-up by back-to-back bunts. The Texanns exploded for five runs in the second and added another in the third.

Severinsen finished 1-for-3 at the plate, and Madelyn Schulz finished 1-for-2.

Ashley Pulido was credited with the loss giving up seven runs, five earned, on nine hits in three innings of work. Jo Bolyard struck out four and gave up one hit in three innings of relief work.

The Mavericks (0-2) will face Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M Saturday (Feb. 15).
