Lopez Leads Mavericks to 83-42 Win Over T-Wolves

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa limited the visiting CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves to 28 percent shooting on the night in an 83-42 win on Thursday night in Brownson Arena. The two teams came into the contest undefeated in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
 
Senior Christen Lopez finished with a career-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. She also added eight assists, grabbed six rebounds and only committed two turnovers.
 
"We really wanted to come out and make a statement," the senior said. "I was looking to get it into the post but I just took what they gave me."
 
Lopez and the Mavericks committed a season-low six turnovers and forced 17 ThunderWolf turnovers.
 
The Mavericks raced out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back leading by as many as 42 in the game. They scored 24 points off turnovers and outscored CSU-Pueblo 34-20 in the paint.
 
"Now they know they can play that type of defense," Coach Taylor Wagner said. "They saw that good things happen when they help each other out."
 
Senior Sharaya Selsor added 20 points and eight assists while Aubry Boehme chipped in 12.
 
At the half, Colorado Mesa led 45-27 on 54 percent (18-of-33) shooting from the field and only committed two turnovers in the half. Christen Lopez paced the Mavericks with 13 first half points.
 
Colorado Mesa improves to 13-0 on the season and 9-0 in the RMAC while the ThunderWolves fall to 10-4 on the season and 7-1 in the RMAC.
 
The Mavericks will complete the mini two game home stand tomorrow night against the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Mountain Lions at 5:30pm.
