GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa women's rugby got off to a good start this season with a 103-0 thrashing of Utah State on Saturday at Dixson Park.
"The team played better than I could have even anticipated. They put everything we had been working on at practice into action and I think a lot of light bulbs turned on and things began to click for our young team. It was a team effort and everyone played their hearts out," a proud CMU coach
Mack Lewis said about the performance.
It was the first rugby game for most of the players on the young team.
Maggie Griggs,
Mindy McCracken,
Joey Harris,
Ariana Ingalls and
Celeste Carter were all rookies coming in and played well.
"There are still a handful of things we need to fine tune before Saturday's match with Utah Valley," Coach Lewis added heading into next weekend.
The Mavericks will play Utah Valley on Saturday at Dixson Park in Grand Junction.
