GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's soccer team continued their string of tough luck losses on the season. The Mavericks dropped a 2-1 double overtime decision to the Metro State Roadrunners at Walker Field.
The Roadrunners got on the board early in the match when Karissa Price tallied her first goal of the season. Price hoisted a shot about eight yards outside the goalie box and found the upper right corner. The goal gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead at the eight minute mark of the match.
Metro State dominated the first half of action, outshooting Colorado Mesa 9-5 and controlled the ball for a majority of the time.
That changed in the second half.
The Mavericks knotted the match at 1-1 in the 51st minute when Tayler Franklin found the back of the net for the first time this season. Franklin took a deflection and found the right side of the goal.
Colorado Mesa controlled the ball and put Metro State on their heels for most of the half but couldn't secure their second goal.
Roadrunner Karissa Price netted the golden goal in the 103rd minute of the match when her shot bounced off both posts and spun into the goal, giving Metro State the 2-1 edge.
Colorado Mesa's record drops to 1-5-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in the RMAC while Metro State improves to 4-0-2 on the season and 2-0-0 in the RMAC.
The Mavericks will look to rebound next Friday when they host the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves at 7:00pm at Walker Field.
