The Colorado Mesa University baseball team opened up the RMAC Tournament on Thursday night against the Colorado Mines Orediggers at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks built a 4-1 lead after two innings but that was all the could get while the Orediggers scored five unanswered runs on their way to a 6-4 win. The Mavericks fall to 41-8 on the season while the Orediggers improved to 22-25 on the year.

CMU got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Mitch Corwin delivered a two-run homerun that bounced off the top of the wall and off the netting in front of the scoreboard in right center field. The homerun was Corwin's fifth homerun of the season and gave the Mavericks a 2-1 lead. Corwin finished the game 2-for-5.

Back-to-back RBI singles by Erik Kozel and Braden Box in the bottom of the second lifted the Maverick lead to 4-1. Box finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Oredigger Christian Rooney kept the Maverick bats at bay for the rest of the game. Rooney pitched 7.2 innings and allowed just four Maverick hits, walked two and struck out seven to earn the win in relief.

Colorado Mesa will play a loser-out game tomorrow at 12:00pm against the Metro State Roadrunners who fell to CSU-Pueblo 4-1 in the opening game of the tournament.
