CMU dropped its semifinal game Saturday morning to UC-Colorado Springs 4-1 and fell in to the losers' bracket at the 2013 RMAC Softball Championships in Lakewood, Colo. The double-elimination tournament has six teams remaining, two undefeated teams; host Colorado School of Mines and UC-Colorado Springs.
UC-Colorado Springs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third on three hits and one CMU error. Back-to-back singles and a sac fly RBI gave UCCS a 1-0 lead. A single scored the Mountain Lions' second run (unearned) for a 2-0 advantage.
CMU cut the deficit in half (1-2) in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple by Jessica Severinsen. Taylor Gross reached on an error by the UCCS third baseman and scored on Severinsen's triple down the left field line.
The Mountain Lions extended the lead to 4-1 in the fifth scoring two runs (one earned) on two hits.
CMU had four hits, struck out eight times in the game and committed five errors.
Starting pitcher Ashley Pulido took the loss going 4.0 innings allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits, striking out three. Jessica Severinsen pitched the final 3.0 innings giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits, walked three and struck out one.
CMU will look to extend the season in an elimination game versus CSU-Pueblo at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
