Mavericks Squander Early Lead to Penguins

The Colorado Mesa University men's lacrosse team continued its Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association home schedule on Sunday with a match against league leading Dominican University at Walker Field. The Mavericks led 3-0 at halftime but allowed seven second half goals and fell in double overtime to Dominican 8-7. Colorado Mesa is now 5-4 and 3-2 in the WILA while Dominican improves to 6-4 and 4-0 in the WILA.

Colorado Mesa had a 7-6 lead with three minutes to go in the match but couldnt keep the Penguins from getting the equalizer. Dominican tallied the game-tying goal with just 1:17 left in regulation.

The Mavericks had seven goals in the game and seven different players score those goals.

WILA Offensive Player of the Week Michael Beimford had a goal and three assists in the match, while teammate Austin Pridham had a goal and a pair of assists.

Beimford also led the team in groundballs with five.

Brad Brandenburg took the loss in goal for the Mavericks. Brandenburg finished the game with four groundballs and 15 saves.

The Mavericks will be on the road for a neutral site match with nationally ranked Seton Hill in St. Charles, Mo. next Sunday April 14. They will also play former WILA member Lindenwood on Tuesday April 16th.
