Nicole Robinson's walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored
Camille Brimhall for a 2-1 win over Chadron State on Sunday afternoon at Bergman Field. CMU won game one on Sunday 7-0 and completed their first series sweep this year.
Chadron (14-24, 12-19 RMAC) scored an unearned run in the third inning and carried that lead in to the seventh. CMU (26-15-1, 24-11-1 RMAC) had several chances to push a run across leaving a total of six runners on base in fourth, fifth and sixth inning.
CMU's seventh started with a lead-off double by senior Lisa Pille. Senior Camille Brimhall reached on an error by the first baseman on a sac bunt as Pille advanced to third. Following a strikeout, senior Taylor Gross' double to left center scored Pille for a 1-1 tie. Nicole Robinson's single to center field scored Brimhall to seal the series sweep.
Jessica Severinsen improved to 18-5 on the year. She pitched a complete game allowing seven hits and an unearned run, walked two and struck out five.
In game one the Mavericks won 7-0 behind a complete game shutout for Courtney Shreves. She improved to 6-7 on the year allowing four hits, walked one and struck out five.
CMU led 2-0 following a two-run homerun by Jessica Severinsen. In the third inning Makayla Kovac hit a three-run blast down the left field line for a 5-0 CMU lead. A solo homerun by Severinsen in the fifth pushed the lead to 6-0. A double by Kovac in the sixth scored Robinson.
CMU will travel to Colorado School of Mines for the RMAC Tournament beginning on Thursday, May 2 through Saturday in Golden. CMU's first round opponent will be determined Sunday evening when the league office will release the 2013 RMAC Softball Tournament bracket.
