Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse (4-10, 4-6 WILA) closed out Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association play on the road beating Adams State 16-10 for its fourth league win. The loss dropped the Grizzlies to 3-10 overall and 2-8 in WILA play.
The Grizzlies scored the first goal of the game and it would be the only time in the contest the Grizzlies led. CMU tied the game at 26:23 on a man-up goal by Allie Henderson (Tayler Lansdown-assist) followed by another man-up goal by Kelly Cronin (Lexie Chavez-assist) for a 2-1 advantage. ASU tied the score at 2-2 before the Mavericks went on a two goal streak on unassisted goals by Henderson and Ashley Eickoff. Adams cut the deficit to one (3-4) with 17:23 remaining in the first half. CMU put two goals together on a free position goal by Melissa Niedfelt and Henderson's third goal of the game for a 6-3 lead. The two teams each scored two goals each to close out the half. Eickoff (Keri Kopchik-assist) and Niki Barban notched her first goal of the year (Niedfelt-assist) with 6:32 left in the half. CMU took an 8-5 halftime lead.
CMU opened the second half with three consecutive goals for an 11-5 lead. Kopchik (Kreb-assist), Krebs (Henderson-assist) and Kendall Tillman (Kopchik-assist) each registered goals in the first four minutes of the second period. The two teams exchanged free position goals, Krebs finding the back of the net for the Mavs.
After two straight goals by the Grizzlies, the Mavs again went on a three-goal run with Eickoff (Krebs-assist), Henderson (Kopchik-assist) and Megan Lynch (Lansdown-assist) scoring. Lynch's goal was her first of the season. Chavez closed out the game with a goal (Kopchik-assist) for a 16-10 victory.
Allie Henderson had a four-goal game and one assist. Ashley Eickoff had three goals on six shots. Kelsey Krebs had two goals and two assists. Keri Kopchik had four assists and one goal.
Lauren Wells and Kady Herzog each played 30-minutes in the net. Wells allowed five goals and registered three saves in the start. Herzog allowed five goals and had one save.
CMU will close out the season at home on Tuesday night, April 30 at Walker Field. The Mavericks will host Colorado College in a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
