Mavs walk-off with two victories in Saturday Pod

Colorado Mesa (20-11-1, 18-7-1 RMAC) defeated Colorado Christian 8-0 and CSU-Pueblo 5-4 with walk-off homeruns in RMAC Pod action on Saturday at Bergman Field.

CMU shutout Colorado Christian (18-17, 14-7 RMAC) 8-0 in game one, on a pinch-hit walk-off homerun by Camille Brimhall, in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Mavericks scored one run in the first inning, four in the second and one in the third for a 6-0 lead. In the bottom of the sixth Jessica Severinsen hit a one-out single to centerfield. Brimhall entered the game to pinch-hit for Lindsay Drayer and connected on a pitch that cleared the centerfield wall for the run-rule victory.

Severinsen struck out six batters to improve to 14-4 on the year.

In CMU's second game of the day the Mavericks Jessica Severinsen picked up the win in the circle and hit the walk-off homerun (second homerun in the game) in the bottom of the seventh to beat CSU-Pueblo 5-4.

The Thunderwolves scored two runs in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles. CMU answered back in their half of the inning on a two-run home run to right field by Severinsen. CMU took a 3-2 lead in the second on a sacrifice fly by Lisa Pille, scoring Taylor Gross (double). The Mavericks extended the lead to 4-2 in the fourth on an RBI double by Megan Smith.

CMU held the T-Wolves scoreless until the seventh inning when the CSU-P scored two runs on three hits (one CMU error) to tie the game at 4-4. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Severinsen's solo shot ended the game.

Courtney Shreves pitched 4.2 innings allowing two runs on five hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Severinsen picked up her second victory on the day going 2.1 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and registering one strikeout.

CMU will play CSU-Pueblo at 10 a.m. on Sunday. CSU-P and Colorado Christian will face off at Noon followed by the final game of the triple-header Pod,  CMU and Colorado Christian at 2 p.m.
