Junior Brock Martin finished eighth in the 3-meter diving at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championships in Birmingham, Ala. His eighth place finish garners him All-America status.
Martin entered the final after finishing sixth in the preliminaries posting a score of 489.30. Eight divers advanced from the prelims to the finals. Martin recorded a score of 492.55 points in the finals.
Next up for the Martin are the 1-meter championships which begin Friday.
Freshman Mehdi El Hazzaz earned Honorable Mention honors on Thursday at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championships. He posted a time of 1:38.72 in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing 11th overall. El Hazzaz qualified for the finals recording a time of 1:38.93 in the prelim round, advancing him to the finals and All-American recognition.
CMU women's diver Amanda Jennings earned All-American Honorable Mention in the 1-meter dive. Jennings finished 14th overall with a point total of 382.25.
CMU junior Briana Purkapile finished 32nd overall in the preliminary round of 200-meter individual medley. Purkapile clocked a time of 2:8.64. In the 100 butterfly Purkapile finished with a time of 59.19 in the prelims and did not advance to the finals.
On Wednesday freshman standout Mehdi El Hazzaz finished 37th in the prelims in the 50 freestyle in a time of 20.83.
