The Colorado Mesa University Women's Basketball team hosted a Quarterfinal game in the RMAC tournament for the first time since 2008 on Tuesday night. This outcome was different from the that game as the Mavericks rolled to a 74-50 victory over the eighth seeded Regis Rangers. The win sends the Mavericks record to 26-1 on the year while the Rangers fell to 10-17 on the season.
The Mavericks, who were ranked #4 again this week in the WBCA/USA Today National Poll, came out and outscored the Rangers 44-13 by the half. They forced eight Ranger turnovers and held them to a meager 15 percent from the field while shooting over 51 percent themselves.
Kelsey Sigl led the way at half with 14 points and seven rebounds in 16 minutes of action. She played only five minutes in the second half and recorded just a rebound.
The Rangers made a strong push in the second half, outscoring the Mavericks 37-30 but the deficit was just too much to makeup.
For the game, Colorado Mesa shot 48.3 percent from the field and and 43.5 percent from behind the arc while the Rangers shot 30.8 percent from the field and 4.8 percent from the the three point stripe.
Katrina Selsor finished the game with 10 points and four rebounds and
Bruna Deichmann added 10 points and five rebounds to round out the Mavericks top three scorers.
Tae'lor Purdy led Regis with nine points.
Colorado Mesa will now host the RMAC Tournament semifinals and finals in Brownson Arena on Friday and Saturday night. The Mavericks will take on their arch rival the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Friday night at 7:30pm. Metro State will face Colorado Christian in the other semifinal at 5:30pm.
