Mavericks Fall to Lindenwood in WILA action

Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse (1-7, 1-3) fell to Lindenwood University (9-0, 4-0) in Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association action on Saturday afternoon at Walker Field on the campus of Colorado Mesa University.

The first place Lady Lions are on the second leg of a four-game road trip beating CMU 20-9 to remain undefeated on the year.

The two teams opened up the game trading goals with Lindenwood scoring first on unassisted goal 43-seconds into the contest. CMU's Kelsey Krebs (Ashley Eickoff assist) answered back a minute later to tie the game at 1-1. Lindenwood scored three consecutive goals for a 4-1 lead. Morgan Nance (Eickoff assist) broke the string on her third goal of the year at the 24:58 mark.

The Lady Lions scored nine unanswered goals in the next 18-minutes, including two man-down goals to extend the lead to 13-2 with 5:10 remaining in the first period.   CMU would close out the period with back-to-back goals. Lexie Chavez and Ashley Eickoff scored to close out the half trailing 13-4.

Lindenwood opened the second period with three straight goals to take a 16-4 advantage. Kelsey Krebs cut the deficit to 5-16 on her eighth goal of the year with 22:51 remaining in regulation. LU went on another three-goal run to take a 19-5 lead. CMU went on its longest goal streak with three straight goals to pull to within 19-8. Alison Stone (Eickoff assist) scored on back-to-back goals, her first two goals of the year. Tayler Lansdown followed up with a goal (Allie Henderson assist).

LU scored its final goal at the 3:31 mark for a 20-8 lead. CMU closed out the game with a goal by Alison Stone with four-seconds left in the game, falling to the Lady Lions 20-9.

Lauren Wells (35:49) and Kady Herzog (24:11) shared time at goalkeeper. Wells started the game and allowed 11 goals and recorded eight saves. Herzog gave up nine goals and had five saves.

CMU will return to action on Saturday at home versus Adams State University. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Walker Field.
