Colorado Mesa entered the NCAA Elite Eight National Championships for the first time in school history. Last weekend, they won their first NCAA Tournament game and their first NCAA South Central Region Championship.

Their opponent in the NCAA National Quarterfinal was Dowling College from New York, also making their first appearance in the Elite Eight.

The Mavericks shot 29.3 percent from the floor and couldnt dig themselves out of a 25-20 halftime hole and fell 60-44 to the Lions. CMU ended up outrebounding Dowling but the Lions size inside ended up being tough to overcome as they had nine blocks as a team.

The first half was a back and forth battle with Dowling coming out with a five point lead heading to halftime, 25-20. The Lions ended the half on an 8-0 run. 

Two of the top defenses in the country showed why they dont allow many points both showing tough man-to-man defense. The Mavericks turned the ball over 11 times to Dowling's six. 

The Mavericks were led by Sharaya Selsor's five first half points and sister Katrina's five rebounds.

Dowling's Connie Simmons led all scorers at half but former All-Big 12 performer Danielle Wilson proved to be tough to handle. She had five points, four rebounds and three big blocks.

Colorado Mesa finished the game 3-for-20 (15.0%) from the three-point line and only attempted eight free-throws for the game but made seven of those. 

All-American Kelsey Sigl fought hard for her 15 points to lead all scorers in the game. She now holds the school single-season record for points with 610 passing Tonya Stites' 604 she had in 1992.

Katrina Selsor failed to record a point for the first time in her career but tied for a game-high 10 rebounds.

The loss ends a historical season for the Mavericks as they broke the school record for longest winning streak (18) and most wins in a season (31).
