The Colorado Mesa University Men's Lacrosse team completed their California roadtrip with a game against the Dominican Penguins in San Rafael, Calif. The Penguins outscored the Mavericks 7-3 in the second half including three in the final period to earn the 11-8 win and are now a leg up in the WILA standings. The Mavericks even their record at 3-3 and 1-1 in WILA games while the Penguins improve to 3-5 and 2-0 in the WILA.
Colorado Mesa took a 5-4 lead into half but couldnt sustain the momentum socring only three second half goals. The Mavericks outshot the Penguins 41-31 but every other key statistic was nearly deadlocked.
Josh Russell led the Mavericks today with two goals and two assists. Russell scored the Mavericks frst goal of the game with his second goal giving the Mavericks a 4-2 lead in the first half.
Dange Wolf and
Matt Landon led Colorado Mesa in groundballs with four and three respectively.
Colorado Mesa will continue WILA action next weekend with a single game against the Adams State Grizzlies in Alamosa on March 30.
