Mavs run-rule Roadrunners 8-0 in five innings

Colorado Mesa (13-8-1, 11-4-1 RMAC) posted an 8-0 run-rule victory over Metro State (9-16, 2-11 RMAC) in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pod action at the Colorado School of Mines softball field on Friday afternoon.

CMU out hit the Roadrunners 11-2 and put up seven runs on six hits in the second inning. The Mavericks registered two RBI-triples by Taylor Gross and Makayla Kovac to give CMU a 4-0 lead. Jessica Severinsen's single to center field scored Kovac for a 5-0 advantage. Megan Smith belted a two-run homerun to center field and the Mavericks led 7-0 through two innings.

CMU added a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single up the middle by Smith, scoring Kovac (hit by pitch). The Mavs closed out the game setting down the Roadrunners in the top of the fifth on a ground out and two strikeouts.

Metro had just two hits in the game in a five-inning shutout, earning Jessica Severinsen her ninth victory on the year. She faced 19 batters and struck out seven.

Severinsen went 3 for 3 from the plate with one run and one RBI. Smith and Kovac each finished 2 for 2 and combined for three runs and four RBI.

CMU will return to action on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Metro State. At Noon the Mavericks will take on #13 Colorado Mines.
