Mavericks Fall to #15 Florida Southern 22-9

Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse (1-6) fell to No. 15-ranked Florida Southern College on Tuesday afternoon in Lakeland, Fla. The game wraps up the Mavericks Florida swing of three games in four days in the state of Florida.

Allie Henderson and Ashley Eickoff each tallied two goals and combined for three assists in the contest. Kelly Cronin, Tayler Lansdown, Lexie Chavez, Kendall Tillman and Keri Kopchik each registered one goal.

 Florida Southern jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first five minutes of action before the Mavericks settled in and scored on back-to-back goals by Eickoff and Lansdown to cut the deficit in half (2-4). The two teams traded goals with Kopchik's goal pulling CMU back to within two goals, 3-5 at the 15:15 mark of the first period.

A run of three goals by the home team pushed the Mocs' lead to 8-3. Eickoff scored (4-8) and FSC scored two goals for a 9-4 lead with 6:18 remaining until half. CMU went on a three-goal spurt to close out the half and pull to within 10-7 at intermission. Henderson scored two consecutive goals and Tillman scored with five-seconds on the clock.

 Florida Southern opened the second period with two quick goals in the first three minutes to open up the lead to 12-7. CMU answered back with two consecutive goals by Kelly Cronin and Lexie Chavez to cut the deficit back to three goals (9-12). The #15-ranked Mocs' exploded for 10 straight goals in the final 21-minutes of action, outscoring the Mavericks 12-2 in the second period.

Florida Southern out shot CMU, 39-19 and held a 34-20 ground ball advantage. CMU was 3 of 4 in free position shots and the Mocs' were 4 of 5, including 4 for 4 in the second period. All four of CMU's free position shots came in the first period.

CMU will return home to host conference opponent Lindenwood University on Saturday, March 30, at 1 p.m. at Walker Field.
