Colorado Mesa (23-1, 19-1 RMAC) women's basketball team clinched the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season title Saturday night beating Western State Colorado 86-48 in Gunnison. It is the first RMAC title since 2001-02 season.
CMU led from start to finish, jumping out to an 11-0 lead and led 40-21 at halftime. Kelsey Sigl had nine of CMU's first 11 points and had 19 first-half points.
Three Mavericks finished with double digits; Sigl recorded her third consecutive double-double with a game high 26 points and 13 rebounds. Sharaya Selsor had 15 points, four assists and two steals. Bruna Deichmann finished with 11 points off the bench.
CMU shot 47 percent (27-57) from the field and connected on 26 of 29 free throws. The Mavs scored 36 points in the paint and 19 second chance points. CMU outrebounded WSCU 48-32.
Western State was led by Raven Taylor's 13 points.
CMU's RMAC championship crown earns the Mavericks the right to host the RMAC Shootout beginning Tuesday March 5 on area campuses. CMU will host the No. 8 seed. If the Mavericks win, CMU will host the semifinal and final round of the tournament at Brownson Arena on March 8-9.
Ranked No. 4 in the latest USA Today/ WBCA poll, the Mavericks hold down the No. 1 ranking in the South Central Region.
Colorado Mesa will close out the regular season at home on Friday (Adams State) and Saturday (Fort Lewis College). Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
