Defense Steps Up in 87-53 Win

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa Women's Basketball team held the visiting Dixie State Red Storm to 32 percent shooting and forced 17 turnovers in an 87-53 win on Saturday night in Brownson Arena.
 
It was the first win over the Red Storm since 2006 when the Mavericks defeated Dixie State 66-59 in Brownson Arena in the first ever meeting between the two schools.
 
CMU came out of the gates strong, opening the game on a 28-8 run in the opening ten minutes of the game. The Mavericks led 52-18 at the end of the first half with Sharaya Selsor scoring 17 of her game-high 23 in the first half.
 
Colorado Mesa outrebounded the Red Storm 60-37 in the game with Hannah Pollart and Taylor Rock leading the way with nine and eight respectively. Pollart also finished with a season-high 12 points.
 
The Mavericks only turned the ball over nine times in the game while forcing 17 Red Storm turnovers.
 
Aubry Boehme finished the game with 12 points and six rebounds.
 
Kaylah Miller led Dixie State with 19 points with 5-of-10 shooting from behind the arc.
 
Colorado Mesa moves its record to 4-0 for the second consecutive season and will open up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next weekend. The Mavericks will play host to Chadron State and Black Hills State in Brownson Arena with both games starting at 5:30pm.
