GREELEY, Colo. – Colorado Mesa University and the University of Northern Colorado split the ten bouts but with all of the Bears' wins coming for extra points they were able to edge the Mavericks 30-22 in a non-conference dual in Butler Hancock Pavilion.

The Bears won the 125 pound bout by fall and received a forfeit at 133 pounds to jump out to a 12-0 lead.

The Mavericks came back after
Daniel Salazar picked up a win at 141 pounds. Salazar scored a reversal early in the third period and was able to ride out his opponent to secure the 7-6 win.

Third ranked
James Martinez picked up a pin at 149 pounds over Beau Roberts at the 2:04 mark of the first period. Martinez' pin cut the Bears lead in the dual to 12-9.

Northern Colorado bounced back and answered with a pin at 157 pounds to extend its lead to 18-9.

Colorado Mesa got back-to-back wins from
Jessie Hoffschneider at 165 pounds and
Dylan Granard at 174 pounds. Hoffschneider picked up a 16-5 major decision win while Granard secured a 9-2 win to inch the Mavericks closer in the dual, 18-16.

Northern Colorado picked up a pin at 184 pounds then each team received an injury default in the final two bouts.
Paco Retana received the win by injury default for the Mavericks while
Jordan Passehl defaulted due to a knee injury at 285 pounds.

The loss is the first of the season for the Mavericks who fall to 2-1.

Colorado Mesa will next be in action on December 19 when the host their home opener against the Bethany College Swedes.
